Bitesize Prediction: Swansea vs Bournemouth – 29/08/23

Market: Both teams to score

Odds: 7/10 @

Looking to extend on their EFL Cup adventure on Tuesday night, Bournemouth will travel to the Liberty when they meet Swansea.

Starting with the hosts, while Swansea might have extended on their EFL Cup run earlier in the month as they cruised their way to a routine 3-0 victory against Northampton, Michael Duff’s side have struggled to find any kind of Championship stability. Last seen over the weekend suffering a second-half collapse away at Preston as they eventually slumped to a 2-1 defeat, the Swans are yet to muster a single win from any of their opening four second-tier appearances. With their downbeat start to the 2023/24 campaign underlined by an action-packed 3-2 defeat against West Brom on August 12th, the former Barnsley boss will have a mounting headache over his side’s extended defensive struggles. Getting proceedings underway with a 1-1 draw at home against Birmingham, Duff’s side are yet to muster a sole Championship clean sheet so far this season. On a similar note, continuing on from last year, Swansea have seen each of their last six Championship contests finish with both teams getting on the scoresheet.

As for the visitors, while Bournemouth might have gained plenty of praise last season as they clung to their Premier League status, the Cherries have struggled to match a similar level this time around. Still trying to find their feet under Andoni Iraola, the former Rayo Vallecano boss has seen his side muster just a single point from any of their opening three top-flight showdowns. It should also be noted, after losing each of their final four Premier League appearances last season by an aggregate score of 7-1, Bournemouth have failed to claim a top-flight victory since a 4-1 win against Leeds back on April 30th. Showing some extended issues at the back on either side of the summer break, Iraola’s men will be desperate to make an EFL Cup marker in south Wales. It should be noted, with the two sides playing out a thrilling 3-3 stalemate when they last met at the Liberty for a Championship showdown 16 months ago, we could be treated to another enjoyable affair here.
