October was a busy month, seeing the launch of a number of major new titles, and many of them performed well in the United States upon release, as per sales data for the month shared by Circana analyst Mat Piscatella on BlueSky.
Unsurprisingly, on top of the software charts for the month is Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, which has also instantly become the third-highest selling game of the year in the US. In terms of dollar sales, its launch is 23 bigger than that of last year’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, with 82 percent of its October sales coming on PS5 and PS4.
Trailing behind in second place is Dragon Ball: Sparking! ZERO, which has also got off to a quick start. It has instantly become the fourth-highest selling game of the year in the US, in addition to becoming not only the bestselling Dragon Ball game in the US to date in dollar sales (yes, already), but also Bandai Namco’s third-highest selling game of all time in the region, behind Elden Ring and Dark Souls 3.
In third place in the charts we have Konami and Bloober Team’s remake of Silent Hill 2. It’s already become the No. 2 bestselling game in the Silent Hill series in the region to date, behind the original Silent Hill 2.
Meanwhile, several other major titles that launched in October also occupy in the US’ charts for the month, with Steel City Interactive and Plaion’s Undisputed (No. 4), Atlus and Sega’s Metaphor: ReFantazio (No. 5), BioWare and EA’s Dragon Age: The Veilguard (No. 6), Nintendo Cube and Nintendo’s Super Mario Party Jamboree (No. 7), Sonic Team and Sega’s Sonic X Shadow Generations, and Deck Nine and Square Enix’s Life is Strange: Double Exposure (No. 18).
On the hardware side of things, consumer spending in the US dropped 23 percent in October year-on-year, with a total of 604,000 hardware units sold (down from 759,000 in October last year). PS5 was the bestselling console of the month in the US in dollar and unit sales, while Xbox Series X/S took second place in both metrics. However, all consoles saw a year-on-year drop in sales, with Switch dollar sales slipping by 38 percent, PS5 sales by 20 percent, and Xbox Series X/S sales by 18 percent.
Barcelona coach Pep Guardiola has made his side s intentions clear at the Club World Cup victory.
The European champions open their campaign in Japan against AFC Champions League winners Al Sadd of Qatar on Thursday in the semi-finals, with questions being asked in the press over the importance of the competition given the La Liga outfit s already congested fixture calendar.
But Guardiola who guided Barca to a win in the competition in 2009 assured reporters that his side is taking the tournament seriously.
We are here because we earned it and now we will work to take the title, he said.
It s all much more even, anything can happen in a game; we must not take victory for granted.
It is the competition I am most excited about this year because…

The Brazilian has just few months left on his deal at Gerland and is currently negotiating a new contract with the club chiefs.

Former Inter president Massimo Moratti thinks it is too soon to criticise Frank de Boer s impact at the club, but called on the Dutchman to improve his defence.
De Boer was installed as head coach at San Siro last month and has failed to deliver a win from his first two competitive games in charge.
A 2-0 defeat at Chievo and a 1-1 draw at home against Palermo have left De Boer under pressure to get a victory at Pescara on September 11, but Moratti says the former Holland defender must re-think his defensive strategy.
The defence against [Chievo] Verona? Well, he has to work to not create additional criticism, Moratti told Gazzetta dello Sport.
He should take advice well from those around him, his staff, and must understand Italian football by studying…
Abou Diaby appears likely to be offered a new deal by Arsenal, providing he can prove his fitness and put together a run of games before the end of the season.
Diaby s time at Arsenal has been heavily disrupted by injuries, with the midfielder featuring in just 16 Premier League matches since the start of the 2011-12 campaign.
He has been limited to a solitary League Cup outing this term, having made only one substitute appearance in the previous season.
However, Wenger hinted that a new contract could yet be awarded to Diaby, whose current deal expires in June, if he is able to make an impression over the coming weeks.
I had a chat with him and told him how I can envisage the future, said the Arsenal manager.

Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas believes Didier Deschamps should bring Karim Benzema back into the international setup as the Real Madrid striker would bring a new dimension to the France team.
Benzema has not played for Les Bleus since October 2015, having been excluded from selection contention for Euro 2016 on home soil after being charged in connection with an alleged attempt to blackmail his international team-mate Mathieu Valbuena over a sex tape.
A favourable decision by France s Court of Cassation in July led the striker s lawyer to suggest the case against Benzema could now be dropped.
However, the striker was not handed a recall as France booked their spot at the 2018 World Cup in Russia.
French Football Federation president Noel Le Graet has c…
Looking to extend their stay in the play-off spots in midweek, Stoke will make the trip to the City Ground when they face off against Bristol City on Wednesday night.
Starting with the hosts, throwing away the lead and eventually having to settle for a single point against Blackburn on home soil, Bristol City find themselves in the midst of a real struggle. Once again still firmly looking over their shoulder at the drop zone, the Robins know that they must try and find some stability. Making the decision to stick with Head Coach Nigel Pearson, Wednesday s hosts have won just one of their last seven Championship contests, a run that stems back to October 2nd. Mustering just four points on their downbeat run of form, the one-time…
