Solskjaer: Man Utd are scoring a lot of goals

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is satisfied with Manchester United s attacking efforts despite another frustrating outing in front of goal at Old Trafford.

United and Manchester City shared a dour 0-0 draw in Saturday s derby, where neither side did much to quicken the pulse.

Nevertheless, Solskjaer praised his players character after they put last week s sapping Champions League exit at RB Leipzig behind them.

United have now gone five consecutive home games without scoring from open play in the Premier League, but their manager feels it is helpful to look at a bigger picture of more free-scoring performances on the road and in European fixtures.

If you compare our goal tally from last season to now, we re way ahead in terms of the amount of games t…

Iniesta backs Guardiola for City success

Barcelona midfielder Andres Iniesta has no doubt about Pep Guardiola s ability to adapt to the challenges at Manchester City and in the Premier League.

Guardiola s City have made a flying start to the season, sitting top of the table after three wins from as many matches.

Iniesta, who starred under Guardiola at Barca in 2008-12, backed his former coach and Spain team-mates in the City squad, including the exceptional David Silva.

Pep knows how to adapt and I m sure he ll do so in England, Iniesta said, via The Guardian.

He s also got staff like Mikel Arteta who ll help that process, who know the league.

City have signed well and have a very competitive squad. I know Nolito well because he was a team-mate here at Barcelona and with Spain. He s h…

Tuchel: Chelsea stole three points at Watford

Thomas Tuchel felt that Chelsea stole three points with their 2-1 victory at Watford on Wednesday.

The Blues were far from their best from the off at Vicarage Road. They completed just 71 per cent of their passes for their lowest passing accuracy in all competitions under Tuchel and their worst since facing Liverpool in the Premier League in May 2018.

Mason Mount put them in front after a 30-minute break in play while a fan received medical attention after suffering from a cardiac arrest Watford later confirmed the supporter had been stabilised. However, Emmanuel Dennis became the first Watford player to score in three consecutive top-plight games since Troy Deeney in 2017 when he equalised before half-time.

Tuchel s men looked destined to drop points for the …

Frank Lampard was once ‘pushing big’ to bring hotshot Erling Haaland to Chelsea

Frank Lampard has revealed he tried to sign Erling Haaland for Chelsea during his first spell as the manager at Stamford Bridge.

The Manchester City striker came up against Lampard’s team in a pre-season friendly in 2019 while he was playing for RB Salzburg in Austria.

He scored 28 goals in 22 matches that season before signing for Borussia Dortmund the following summer, but Lampard said he attempted to bring him to west London instead during his 18-month spell in charge between 2019 and 2021.

Ultimately competition for the Norway international’s signature, together with the fact not everybody at Chelsea was convinced that a bid for Haaland would have been the right move, meant that Lampard was left frustrated.

Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag has ‘a lot of respect’ for Luton

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag will not underestimate Luton but insists going to Kenilworth Road is the same as any other ground.

The Hatters have beaten Newcastle and Brighton at home, drawn with Liverpool and pushed Manchester City and Arsenal close before losing by the odd goal.

They surprisingly lost to fellow strugglers Sheffield United when they visited last weekend but Ten Hag will not read much into that result.

“It doesn’t matter who you face, if you play the best or the worst or in between, it doesn’t matter,” said the Dutchman, whose side have won five and drawn one of their last six matches.
